What is Broomball?

Broomball is a team sport that is played on ice. Players wear shoes rather than skates, and use a "broom" (a stick shaped like a broom) to move the ball around the ice. Rules and strategies are similar to those of ice hockey. Broomball does not require expensive equipment or special skills - just an open mind and a positive attitude!

Who We Are

The DC Broomball Association is a social organization dedicated to the advancement of broomball in the greater Washington, D.C. area (including Northern Virginia and Southern Maryland).

Where We Play

Pick-up social games on a half sheet of ice are held at Kettler Iceplex in Ballston, VA.  League play on a full sheet of ice are held at Tucker Road Ice Rink in Ft. Washington, MD.  Join the DC Broomball Facebook Group for the latest information about pick-up games.

The Winter 2010 League starts Wednesday, January 13th.  It's a 6 week season with two weeks of play-offs. The Final Championship Match-up is Wednesday, March 3.  Register for DC Broomball's second season here.

There will be 4 carpool pick-ups/drop-offs for all players who don't have a car.  Arrangments will be made between the players and the designated drivers.  Please e-mail Jack (jack@chasekickballs.com) to exchange contact information with your designated driver.  Here are the following car pool stations:

  • Dupont Circle Metro (Red)
  • Union Station Metro (Red)
  • Greenbelt Metro (Green/Yellow)
  • Cyrstal City Metro (Yellow/Blue)

Who Can Play

Just about anyone. Most of our leagues are co-recreational, and we have players of all skill levels. The only restriction is that a waiver must be signed to play. Those under 18 years of age must have a parent or guardian sign the waiver.
