Welcome to the 2010-11 Winter Season
Hello Broomballers!
The draft has been completed and the winter 2011 season of DC Broomball is a week away. The ball officially drops on Wednesday, December 1, 2010, when four teams comprised of over 50 broomballers take the ice.
The captains met Monday for the draft and the resulting teams are below. If your captain has not yet reached out to your team, you can find your teammates and team color below. If your name does NOT appear on the rosters below but you registered to play in the Winter 2011 season, please contact us ASAP at DCBroomball@gmail.com to get everything straightened out.
Your captain either has or will be contacting you shortly to appoint assistant captains and to discuss positions, lines and most importantly, team name, so keep an eye out for a note from them.
Attached, you’ll find the official league rules, schedule and rosters as PDFs. Directions to the rink are also included below. You can also access the schedule, results, and standings at dcsocialsports.com/leagues/broomball/197. Please take a minute before Wednesday to review the league rules. This is imperative if everyone is going to hit the ground running when the season officially starts. For the first week, we’d also ask that you arrive to the rink early to meet your team.
Just some quick notes:
• Refs: Our games will be refereed by one paid official who will be joined each week by a veteran player/ref who will assist primarily as a lines judge and to provide
support. In the rules, you’ll notice that only captains and assistant captains may discuss calls with refs, but we will take that a step further and ask everyone to be
respectful and considerate of the refs and your fellow league-mates who do a VERY difficult job week after week.
• Schedule: The schedule is attached. We’ve worked hard to ensure that all teams get a fair share of both early and late games. Two players who are not playing in
any given game have been assigned to work that game’s shot clock and score sheet. Using league members for this duty keeps our costs down, and it’s actually quite easy and fun work that involves watching broomball and making the rink horn go off (always a good time). If you’ve been assigned to run the shot clock or score sheet and cannot for any reason perform that duty, please find a replacement for yourself, or switch dates with someone. If you have any questions about keeping score or running the clock, please find Ryan Schradin, James Cargo or Sarah Schradin prior to your assigned game and they will walk you through it.
• Rides: If you do not have a car and need a ride to the rink, please reach out to your team captain who will work to put you together with an individual from your team who can provide transportation. If that fails, reach out to us at DCBroomball@gmail.com, and we’ll work to find someone on another team or a representative from the Commissioner’s office that can give you a lift.
• Shirts: Last year we gave out league t-shirts as part of the cost for registration. We decided to drop that this season and instead direct those funds towards a referee and to keep our overall registration fees low. If you don’t have a DC Broomball shirt in your team color, simply wear your team color to the rink each week (Red team wears red, etc.). Please try to select shirts that are clearly your team color to avoid confusion.
Thank you all for registering for the winter 2011 season of DC Broomball. We’re dedicated to becoming one of the preeminent broomball leagues in the country and are extremely thankful that you’ve decided to join us for the ride.
See you all on the ice next Wednesday!
Broomball forever,
