Week 5 Recap and Week 6 Preview

Hello DC Broomballers!

Wow…this is the last week of the regular season. After this week, things get amped up as the teams battle it out for the Commissioner’s Cup! If you’ve never seen our trophy…it’s pretty cool. Oh, and the winners get their names engraved on it!

Here are some highlights from week five, the schedules for week six and any other various things we think of.

Week 5 Highlights
The early game between Cargo Pants and Frank’s Bar All-Stars pitted the teams with the top two records against each other in broomball combat. Cargo Pants had won the first meeting between these titans in overtime, and the All-Stars were looking for revenge.

Luke LaViolet had two goals and an assist and Sarah Schradin, playing in her first game back after her terrible accident, registered a goal and an assist for the All-Stars. That was all the All-Stars would need as their goaltender, Max Leitschuh, shut the door by stopping all eight shots he faced.
Final score: (Frank’s Bar All-Stars: 3, Cargo Pants: 0)

The second game of the week saw the Blue Bananas of Death face off with Urine Trouble. The Blue Bananas were looking to avenge a blow-out loss to Urine Trouble earlier in the season.

This game was back and forth all the way. Bradford Miles Neumann scored two for Urine Trouble and Dave Bloom added another. Jason “Speedy” Williams and Mike Pawlo were given assists for the yellow team.

It wasn’t enough as the Blue Bananas answered back with two goals and an assist from Aaron Hopkins and a goal apiece from Kasey Kirby and rental player Tony Pappas, who also each had an assist. John Remein was credited with an assist for the blue team as well.
Final score: (Blue Bananas of Death: 4, Urine Trouble: 3)

Standings
At the end of week 5, the standings are:

Frank’s Bar All-Stars (W:3, T:1, L:1, P:7 GD:+6)
Cargo Pants (W:3, T:0, L:2, P:6, GD:-2)

End of Season Party
Just a reminder, the end of season party for the fall 2010 season will be 8PM on November 19, 2010 at First Down Sports Bar. Unlike previous years, the league will be purchasing a keg or two, so folks who get there early will enjoy FREE BEER until the keg is kicked.

Just like previous end of season parties, there will be revelry, fun, drinking, eating, chatting and of course, the presentation of the Commissioner’s Cup to the league champions!

Winter Season Registration
Also a reminder…there’s only 4 teams and 56 slots available for the winter season. We’ve already filled over a third of them. Register early and talk it up to your friends soon or you may get locked out! Here’s the link to sign up:

Summing Up
Only one week left before things get REAL! Remember, every team makes the playoffs…and it’s a whole new season when the ball drops!

But we’re getting ahead of ourselves! This week, we see the first place team, Frank’s Bar All-Stars square off with the last place Urine Trouble squad, battling to save face and enter the playoffs on a positive note. We also see the number two and three teams fighting it out. The Bananas handed Cargo Pants a tough loss earlier in the season…will Cargo Pants answer with a win of their own? We’ll find out this week!

As always, please feel free to contact the commissioner at any time with any complaints, questions or abuse at dcbroomball@gmail.com.

Broomball Forever!
