Playoffs This Week
Hello DC Broomballers!
Well, that’s it for the regular season. Six weeks of hard-fought contests and now a whole new season starts! That’s right, it’s playoff time.
Here are some highlights from the last week of the regular season, the schedules for the first week of the playoffs and any other various things we think of.
Week 6 Highlights
The early game between Cargo Pants and the Blue Bananas of Death was a defensive and goaltending battle, with both teams putting up close to the same amount of shots through two periods, but nobody really able to dent the armor.
John Crick managed the only goal in the game with an assist from Louis Gardner. Cargo Pants goalie, Sean Greeney, stopped 14 of the 15 shots he faced, while Blue Banana goalie, Ellen Turner, stopped all 16 that were put on her net.
Final score: (Blue Bananas of Death: 1, Cargo Pants: 0)
The second game of the week saw the league’s first place team square off with the last place team, as the Frank’s Bar All-Stars met Urine Trouble in yet another defensive battle.
The All-Stars opened scoring when Chris Matroniano unloaded a blast from the face-off dot that beat the Commish. After that, goaltenders Max and Ryan put on a show until Mike Pawlo scored on a wicked one-timer from Dave Bloom.
The game would go into overtime despite a late regulation flurry of offense from the All-Stars. Seconds after the start of bonus broomball, Dave Bloom got a pass from Bradford Miles Neumann and shot the ball into the empty All-Star net from just inside the zone to give Urine Trouble the win.
Final score: (Urine Trouble: 2, Frank’s Bar All-Stars: 1 in OT)

Summing Up
This has been another great season of DC Broomball. It’s amazing how much the standings have changed from week to week, which is a great indication that we’ve had some hard-fought contests between some very even squads.
All of that doesn’t really matter now, though. The playoffs are here and every game is “win or go home.”
Which teams will take the first step towards claiming the Commissioner’s Cup and having their names engraved on its shiny silver exterior forever? Will it be The Frank’s Bar All-Stars and Cargo Pants, who are looking to get revenge on the teams that bested them last week? Or will it be Urine Trouble and the Blue Bananas of Death continuing their dominance over the opposition? We find out this week when the ball drops on the fall 2010 playoffs!
As always, please feel free to contact the commissioner at any time with any complaints, questions or abuse at dcbroomball@gmail.com.
Broomball Forever!
