Spring 2011 Week 3 Newsletter

DC Beach Volleyballers,

Will it rain?  Will it shine?  These are the questions that we ponder every second as we stare out the window, study weather forecasts, refresh the Doppler radar, and gaze into tea leaves.  Our resident meteorologists will determine at 4:00PM tomorrow (Wednesday, 5/18) whether games will continue as scheduled and whether field conditions will permit us to play on the sand courts.  DCSSC Weather Policy boils down to this: so long as its not raining and so long as field conditions are playable, then we shall play.

Games Schedule

Assuming that games are still on, then here's the schedule for tomorrow:

6:15 PM Games
Court 4 ... Cognito Ergo Boom (formerly Team S) v. White Men Can't Bump (Ref: Caudle)
Court 5 ... Bumpin' Ain't Easy v. Balls (Ref: Cargo)
Court 6 ... Monstars v. How I Set Your Mother (Ref: Volunteer)

7:15PM Games
Court 4 ... Service My Balls (formerly Team T) v. ACP (Ref: Caudle)
Court 5 ... Practice Safe Sets v. Karch Kariily's Proteges (Ref: Cargo)
Court 6 ... The Love Bumps v. Sets on the Beach (Ref: Elliot)

Call for Volunteer Scorekeepers

Are you interested in helping out as a score keeper?  Are you interested in free beer?  DC Beach Volleyball needs your help.  Help us keep score for one game and we'll give you a $20 gift certificate to our sponsor bar at 19th (1900 Eye St. NW).

Upcoming Events

  • June 19 - Flip Cup Invitational - Join us Saturday, June 19, for the most competitive flip cup tournament.  Teams of 6 will face off in Best-of-7 Matches.  Be sure to register your team today with James Cargo by e-mailing him at james@chasekickballs.com.  This is a free event for registered teams only.  The tournament begins 1:30pm at McFadden's.

  • June 25 - Arlington Crab Fest - Join Camden Properties and the Arlington Athletic & Social League for the first ever Arlington Crab Fest!  Come for piles of spicy, steamed blue crabs, summer sides, and cans of icy cold draft beer.  For only $25, you'll get: bussels of crabs to share amongst friends and neighbor; as much buttery corn on the cob and spicy potatoes as you can eat; self-service to the AASL coolers filled with vitaminwater and Miller Lite; bountiful helpings of potato sald and cole slaw; fresh baked cookies and brownies; wet naps.  Click here for more information.

  • June 26 - Beer Tasting & Tubing - Urban Escapes is partnering with CHASE Kickball to put together an awesome combination of events for league members. We’ll depart from DC at 9:00 am and head down to the Shenandoah River where we’ll be outfitted with inner tubes and life jackets. Then it’s a relaxing tube ride down river, followed by a delicious picnic riverside lunch. After tubing, it’s off to one of our favorite local breweries where we’ll enjoy a private tasting of five different home-brewed beers led by the Brew Master himself. You'll be back in DC by 6:00 pm and ready to keep the party going all through the night.  Click here for more information.

  • June 26 - Capital Food Bank Volunteer - Last year, the Capital Area Food Bank distributed over 20 million pounds of food and fresh produce in the Washington Metro Area. CHASE Kickball will help in the warehouse with other groups by sorting non-perishable food into bins or boxes by categories, repacking food, or re-labeling boxes. This will help the food bank by preparing food for distribution to local agencies. We are looking for 10 to 12 volunteers to help out on Saturday, June 26, 2009 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Carpool and transportation will be provided. Interested players should contact Matt Toigo at charity@chasekickballs.com.

  • July 7 - Summer Beach Volleyball Kicks-off (Wednesday Nights) - We've got courts 4 and 6 reserved for Wednesday nights with DC Beach Volleyball.  Those are the good courts.  For more details about the upcoming season, please click here.
