S11-022 Volleyball Wrap-up

Fellow AASL Volleyballers,

Thank you for participating in the Spring 2011 Intermediate Volleyball League with the Arlington Athletic & Social League.  Congratulations to the BAM! 2011 for their first championship title with the league.  Also, Congratulations to Scoregasm for being named the Most Spirited Team.


Pajama Charity Crawl


In case you missed the Arlington Graffiti Party, please join us for our inaugural Pajama Bar Crawl for Charity next Saturday, May 21, 2011 from 6:30pm to ??pm.  We'll start at Buffalo Billiards in Dupont Circle with drink specials.  The recommended donation is $5 for the Empowering Center, which provides vocational and career training for delinquent juveniles.  For more details, please check out the Facebook Page.

Registration for Sand Volleyball, Grass Volleyball, Indoor Volleyball is available for the Summer Season with locations in Washington, DC and Arlington, VA.  If you are interested in registering as a free agent or as a team, please go to http://playaasl.com/leagues/volleyball for Arlington locations and http://www.dcsocialsports.com/leagues/volleyball for DC locations.  Payments by check or through Venmo.com will waive the on-line transaction charge.

AASL is calling out all interested members who are interested in serving on the Volleyball Board.  The purpose of the Board is to help bring AASL back to its roots as a social club.  Specifically, the Board will make recommendations on rule changes, plan parties, and nominate players or teams for League Awards.   Board Membership offers future discounts, invitation to leadership happy hours, and other perks.  If you're interested in learning more, please e-mail Jack at jack@dcsocialsports.com.

Volleyball EOS Party

Don't forget to join us for our first ever AASL Graffiti Party (your End of Season party) next Friday, May 13, 2011 from 8pm to 11pm.  We'll be at Rhodeside Grill with t-shirts, pens, and more.  The League will open a beer tab for "post-kickball" activities (wink, wink, nudge, nudge, say no more).  Cover is just $10 for players and $20 for guests.  The entire cover charge goes to the supplement the beer tab.  For more details, please check out Facebook.

Social Conference - Week 1

AASL Volleyballers,

It's the start of another exciting volleyball season.  As a reminder, games begin tonight with the first match-up starting at 6:00pm.  Here's what you need to know tonight:

Game Format

  1. Typically, teams will have 5 to 10 minutes to warm up.
  2. Coin flip, Rock-paper-Scissors, or Odds/Evens determines first possession.
  3. Each match consists of 3 games. 
  4. Each game cosists of 25 point (rally score) with a 27-pt hard limit.
  5. Teams must have a minimum of 2 women on the court.

Gym Usage

  1. AASL Members will need to sign the guest list/waiver at the receptionist desk
  2. AASL members may use the restroom facilities but may not use the gym equipment
  3. Parking is available at both gyms.  Don't forget that you have 3 hour validation available so be sure to get your tickets validated by the receptionist desk.
  4. We are guests of the Sport&Health gym, so please be courteous to other gym members.

Season Standings

You can never write off a team too early because you never know what will happen.  In a 3-way tie for 6th place (with each team defeating and losing to each other), the tie-breaker goes to the team with the most number of points.

Play-off Brackets

The Athletic Conference play-offs will be Saturday, July 31 at Crystal Gateway from 10:00AM to 2:00PM.  The first team to win 2 games moves the tournament forward (a 3rd game will not be played).  Games are scheduled at 30 and 45 minute intervals but there will not be a time limit.  In case of a third game (1-1), the 27 point cap will be removed.  If your team is unable to play on Saturday, please notify me immediately so that we can extend the play-off invitation to another team.
